Bearded Vulture Take Two....Sunday 30th August 2020.

With the continued presence of this stunning bird and the fact i had only achieved distant views on my first visit to see her,Tracy and myself paid her another visit today.

As the Crowden Valley is only just over an hour from home,we planned to get there before she left her roost, but not so today i'm afraid. As when we arrived on site,we were informed she was away at 6am,a good hour before we arrived. But all was not lost,as we gained our first views of her within 20 minutes of being on site.

After a couple of flies around she settled on a rock low down, below Laddow Rocks and appeared to be feeding on something,so off i went.It was a bit of a knackering hike, but worth it,as she gave some superb views both on the ground and flying around overhead,at one point with a Common Buzzard which was completely dwarfed by its much bigger cousin. It was great to see her tail is finally growing back now and she has moulted some new feathers through in her wings also.

As i walked back to where i had left Trace, she then flew back to where we had all been standing and we were treated to more fantastic views as she dropped down to drink from a hillside stream near to Rakes Rocks and i managed to get some nice video of her, talk about putting on a show today, this was just brilliant and a real privilege to see her so close today.

After we gained our fill of views, she was still flying about to the delight of all on site, what a great bird!.

Additional to the Bearded Vulture,we also managed to see some other nice birds which included 2 Raven, the afore mentioned Common Buzzard,2 Dipper along Crowden Great Brook and the superb sight of at least 12 Ring Ouzel, which included a flock of 9 birds.

What a fantastic morning out, with Trace adding 2 more new species to her rapidly increasing life list in the Beardie and the Ring Ouzels, now for lunch!.

A Bit Distant,But Shows The Considerable Size Difference Compared To A Common Buzzard.
