Messingham Sand Quarries.... A Great Visit,01.05.20.

A shopping trip out for us and the in-laws,saw me popping in here for a few hours mid-afternoon to see what was about and it turned out to be another great visit.
Bird wise,9 Swift and 3 Common Tern were both new records for the year and also present were 6 Red-crested Pochard, male Cuckoo,Hobby and a 2nd summer Med.Gull.The latter was seen over the new and main lakes, associating with the breeding Black-headed Gulls and was constantly calling as it flew about overhead.
I managed to find a few new insects today, with me adding Hoverflies Pipiza noctiluca and Cheilosia albitarsus to my personal list and a tiny parastic wasp watched on a Knopper Gall,Torymus auratus.
The only notable member of the Lepidoptera i saw today, was also a new species, the Tortrix Moth Argyrotaenia lijungiana which was found roosting on a Alder.
Other new for the year species included Kidney-spot Ladybirds,Small Copper,Dasysyrphus venustus and the parastic Tachinid Fly Gymnochaeta viridis.
A productive visit as always and great to see some new species also.
