Tracey and myself had booked a week away in Pembrokeshire this week and after the long 5 hours plus drive we finally arrived at Tenby on the Pembrokeshire coast.
After a very well earned rest and drink,we explored a little and then decided to take the boat across to Caldey Island just off the coast.
Caldey(Ynys Byr)is owned by an order of Cistercian monks who live in the abbey on the island and rely on tourism to exist here, making perfume and chocolate and the island was named after Saint Pyr who lived on the island around the year 500,with the monastry being first established in the 6th century.
The name Caldey is derived from old norse which means 'Cold Island'.
There is some impressive scenery to be enjoyed here with some lovely views.
We managed to see quite a bit of the local wildlife which included one of the resident Red Squirrels,6 Raven,2 Chough,10 Dark-green Fritillary and a new species of Sawfly for myself,Abia fasciata which is found on Honeysuckle and Snowberry.
After enjoying this superb island we travelled back to Tenby and made it over to St.Florence to our accomodation.
The following are my fave photos from day one.
