New Forest Holiday, Day 3, Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door, Tuesday 7th August 2024
Another day here in this beautiful area saw us heading over to Dorset again to the amazing world heritage site of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.
Travelling over it was torrential rain and there was a serious accident and we really thought we had made a mistake in setting off for here.
All was well though as we approached Lulworth, the rain had stopped and a few blue holes were beginning to appear.
After getting our kit together we had a wander around Lulworth Cove, grabbed some brekkie and a cuppa and then headed for Durdle Door.
Once the sun was out we began finding some insects which included several Grey-bush Crickets and then Tracey found a cracking female Wasp Spider. I followed up with another cracking Spider and a new one for me, Neoscona adianta, a species of Orb Web Spider, i then also found a Lesser Cockroach one of our native species, but a new one for me.
Goodies just kept coming thick and fast with several Rose Chafers and then i found two new Bugs for me, the first a Boat Bug which is related to Dock Bug and is a relatively new colonist, the second was a Tortoise Bug, a smart little thing.
All this action from the natural world was even without taking in the breath-taking scenery of Swyre Head, Durdle Door and the Cove.
I had really wanted to see Great-green Bush Cricket to show Tracey just how impressive they are and i looked all over the place for one, but just could not find one until i looked at a pub wall and there it was, a stunning female. Trace was slightly taken aback at how big this beautiful Cricket was and we both took loads of pics and video before letting her go in a safe place in someone's garden.
Words can't express what a fantastic sight this area is for both scenery and wildlife, certainly one of the best i have ever visited.
