I started by parking at the Bluebell, got the gear together and headed south along the edge of the borrow pits towards the sea watching hut and numpties.
The welcome calls of a couple of Yellow Wags heading south over head and juv. Whinchat along the edge of the Borrow Pits were a nice enough start i thought.
After arriving at Numpties with Tom,Arash and Jonnie already birding,i settled down to enjoy the brilliant setting and hopefully some good birds.
A little while later Tim arrived followed by Ian Smith and we all concentrated our efforts on trying to see what goodies we could find.
Over the next 3 or 4 hours we logged some nice bits which included my first Merlin of the autumn along the edge of Clubley's,5 Swift south,1 Bonxie south(Also my first of the autumn),2 very distant Manx Shearwater south(Another first of the autumn),and finally a neat juvenile Yellow-legged Gull on the Humber, which showed pretty well.
This coupled with masses of Knot,Bar-wits,Dunlin,Curlew and Common Terns and Common Scoter made for the usual impressive scene you get when watching from this brilliant watch point.
A report of a juvenile Caspian Gull at Kilnsea Wetlands, saw Tim,Tom and myself going to check this out,but on arrival the bird had sadly done a bunk and also an attempt to see a reported Roseate Tern also on the wetlands which never materialised started a bit of a poor run of sightings.I don't think anyone did see the latter.
Sightings while looking for the above, included another Whinchat near Beacon Ponds and a handfull of Med Gulls on the wetlands itself.
Back to Numpties again and more migration watching only added Greenshank and Whimbrel to the days sightings and a smart juvenile Marsh Harrier headed south over the sea.
Non bird sightings observed today included several Grey Seal and 2 Harbour Porpoise from Numpties and good numbers of Roesel's-bush Crickets in the rank grassy areas.
A great visit today as always, even when there are no rares on offer.
