Bempton RSPB.....Saturday 7th August 2021.

An attempt to go and say farewell to the beautiful Black-browed Albatross at Bempton today, sadly drew a blank,as the bird was not seen after early morning leaving it's roost.

All was not lost though,as late morning saw a juvenile Black Stork steadily thermalling it's way north firstly at nearby Flamborough, then over our heads at Bempton, then being lost to view over Speeton.

This was a very welcome bonus and is only my 3rd sighting of the species, after birds at Stillingfleet near York on 29th August 2008 and at Sunk Island near Spurn on 13th September 2015,all the birds i have seen have been juveniles.

After the Stork had passed over, spent the rest of my visit chatting to other visitors and taking photos of the lovely Gannets, which were showing impeccably well.

Most of the Auks have now left the breeding cliffs, with a few Puffins still around, but i could see several rafts of Guillemots distantly.

As i write,it looks like 'Albert' has finally left after entertaining so many people over the summer and i do hope he returns next year to entertain us all again.

Juvenile Black Stork.

Gannets Really Are Stunningly Beautiful Birds!.
