Goathland To Grosmont, Monday 4th May 2026

A chance to get out walking today with Mrs R, saw us Heading to the lovely village of Goathland in the North Yorkshire Moors to carry out a walk we had completed only once before.

The walk starts at Goathland and follows West Beck before it joins the Murk Esk at Beck Hole, it then follows the old railway that used to run between Beck Hole and Grosmont, following the Murk Esk on and off along this journey.

The return leg begins on the same route back, but then takes a detour over the hills past Crag Dyke and up to Green End, before descending back into Beck Hole and then along another section of old railway back to Goathland.

The walk takes in some lovely scenery and some great local history of Iron blast furnaces, iron stone mines and of course the railways used to ship the Iron out of the area.

Today's walk also saw some of the local wildlife showing itself and included Red Kite, male and female Redstart, 2 Dippers, Grey Wagtails and a profusion of Wild Flowers making for a great day.

The following are my favourite photos of our day in this smashing part of the world.
